The Hottest Trends For A Day At The Races

The arrival of spring is always such a happy time, and there's some great events taking place where we can all enjoy being outdoors again. One popular event is to go to the races. Not only is the horse racing itself massively exciting, but the off-track fashion is almost a spectator sport in itself! So with that in mind, I've made a quick list of a few fashion pointers for the upcoming racing season.

Keep warm!
One of the key things to remember about race meetings is that they are outdoors affairs, and therefore liable to be pretty chilly! However, this is the perfect excuse to wrap up warm in a chic woollen coat, which when accompanied by some smart leather boots will give you that perfectly refined country look. This is a great style to go for at the Cheltenham Festival that takes place from 10th to 13th March. Despite the chilly temperatures, last year saw the likes of Lily Allen and Kirsty Gallacher going for the belted coat option whilst having a flutter on the hard-working horses!

Expect the unexpected
And bearing in mind that you'll be outdoors, it's always a good idea to go for layers with an optional brolly as an accessory in case of an unexpected downpour. Wearing cropped jackets is another good idea for covering exposed arms - goosebumps are not part of racecourse style just yet! But don't feel like you are going out on a military campaign. It's one of the best times of the year to get truly dolled up. With spring in the air, it's an excellent excuse to go for a dazzling floral print that will fit the outdoor occasion and help you to stand out in the crowd. And always make sure to carry some stylish sunglasses with you - you never know, the sun might even make an appearance!

Breaking with tradition
Unfortunately we often associate going to the races with having to wear fairly ridiculous hats and an almost fancy-dress approach to colour with horrendous pinks and lime greens.

Thankfully there has been a more understated approach in recent years with a chic 60s styling becoming more fashionable and suited to a refined drink in the Premier Lounge, rather than drunkenly swaying around near the burger van!

So with that in mind go for the stylish A-line shape with a bolder and fuller skirt, and maybe try some block heels as you're likely to be on your feet all day!

My Fashion Resolutions For 2015

Although I own a ridiculous amount of clothing, accessories and footwear you can guarantee that each and every morning I'll wake up, go to my wardrobe and stare blankly thinking "oh my god I have nothing to wear".

I think the reason for this is because I have too much, and its all crammed in to a small space so I can't analyse what I have efficiently to be able to put together a decent outfit on a morning. I also seem to have become stuck in a rut, only buying things that I'm comfortable with wearing, and therefore being apprehensive to try new styles. These problems bring me on to today's post about my fashion resolutions for 2015...

Quality Over Quantity!
I've been saying this for years, but bad habits and all that.... So instead of searching through the sale rails all the time and buying whatever is cheapest I should invest in some staple pieces that I love. Hopefully they will last me throughout the years to come, and I'd be able to wear them in the summer months and then layer them up during the winter months. Ideally I'd love to have what Gok Wan refers to as a "Capsule Wardrobe" but in reality that's never going to happen lol ;)

Wear Lighter Colours - Ditch The Black!
Since I've moved out and started doing my own washing, I've noticed that I never have to put a "light" wash in the washing machine, because 99% of my wardrobe is black or dark colours. I don't know when this happened, but over time it appears I've become more comfortable wearing black and deep shades of clothing (in particular navy & burgundy). I'd like to start by wearing some pastel/neutral shades and then move onto brighter colours and bold dresses in the summer months!

Wear More Shaped/Fitted Clothing
I'm a sucker for over sized clothing - give me my leggings, a big woolly jumper and a puffy coat any day! Sometimes though, I feel like I'm stuck in my comfort zone and this makes me lazy. I feel like my job is partly to blame for this, I work in a very small office, by small - I mean 3 of us. And its always cold, and dirty, because its adjoined to a factory so no point wearing nice clothes as they just get ruined or I'm froze all day lol. But this year(probably when it gets warmer) I'd like to start wearing pale blue jeans and trousers instead of my usual black leggings, fitted/styled blazers instead of my parka jackets and boyfriend cardigans, and finally pretty blouses instead of stretchy t-shirts.

I already own plenty of gorgeous accessories, including some lovely statement necklaces, pretty rings, and earrings, not to mention all the handbags I own haha! But what I need is to set aside time out of my morning routine to accessorize, instead of throwing together my outfit, rushing to do my makeup and then running out the door! As we all know, accessories make your outfit look complete, and can literally change the whole look of your outfit - sometimes changing your day "at the office" into "night on the town".

Kick the Ugg's
I think this is the case for a lot of people at the moment, especially in the UK where it is cold and raining most days... But I literally live in my "Ugg" boots, so when it comes to the warmer months I struggle to choose shoes to wear. I'd like to get some stylish ankle boots for the winter months and then switch to wearing some pretty sandals and dolly shoes in the summer!

So, following on from my last blog post about my highlights of 2014, I am really looking forward to living out my 2015, and hopefully sticking to these fashion resolutions ;)

My 2014 Highlights

It has been over a month since my last blog post and for that I am very, very sorry! I wish I could explain my sudden absence from blogging, but I can't. To put it simply, there was no particular reason/excuse other than I just needed a little break... Especially after posting nearly every day for Blogmas month haha!

Anyway, I am back, with a new look blog design(again) and a refreshed attitude to blogging. I thought it would be a good way to kick off my new year of blogging with a re-cap of some of my personal and blogging highlights of the previous year. So here is my 2014 in a nutshell...

Review of Penllwyn Lodges Wales
❥ January 6th was my birthday, and my boyfriend surprised me with a short weekend break in a lodge at Penllwyn Lodges in Wales for my birthday - you can read my blog post about that here.
We're engaged, I got engaged!
❥ I got engaged in February, whilst we were on yet another weekend break, this time was at the Billing Aquadrome Holiday Park in Northampton (my blog post/review here).
Cath Kidston Outlet Haul
In March we took a trip to Bicester Shopping Village and I fell in love with almost everything in the Cath Kidston Outlet store! Later sharing a small homeware haul on my blog featuring a couple of little things I bought there. We then stayed in the newly built Premier Inn hotel at Dudley - where we took our first ever trip to Frankie and Benny's for a nice meal and a few delicious cocktails!
UK fashion blogger lauras all made up
❥ I began to include more fashion and outfit posts on my blog in April, which went really well whilst it was sunny outside and I could feature some really pretty dresses, but now that its cold and dull, I struggle to find nice winter clothes to wear! I also set up my Product A-Z/Directory (which is located at the top of my page in the navbar) where you can find a link to every product I've ever reviewed all in one place!
1000 followers milestone, blogger followers
Cadbury world review
❥ May saw my little blog hit 1000 followers on Bloglovin' and GFC and so I celebrated with a fantastic giveaway in collaboration with Fragrance Direct!

I took my younger brother and sister to Cadbury World where we stuffed our faces with lots of chocolate, although it was far too hot to be in a chocolate factory haha.
❥ In June I was offered a free weekend lodge stay at Billing Aquadrome, to compensate for the crappy "Caravan" they put us in the previous time we stayed, when I had in fact booked a superior lodge. So that was a nice break in the sunshine anyway(again I did not share this on my blog for some reason?) This also happened to be the month when I decided it was time to move out my parents house and get my life together!

❥ July was very uneventful - probably because I didn't go out anywhere(saving my money as per previous status).
Blue Ford Focus Zetec 1.6
❥ August was a big milestone... because I paid off my car finance early! I paid it all off within just 1 year, although I had originally budgeted it over 3 years! So my gorgeous Blue Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 is all mine! You can read my post here about that, and other things that happened to give me the kick up the behind to move out of my parents house!
Aberdovey beach Wales
❥ In September me, my brother and sister had a little day trip with our Nan and Grandad to Aberdovey in Wales, it was a lovely day out in the sunshine by the sea, and we even went for a little paddle lol. It was a nice break just to get away from everything for the day! Also I started to buy bits and pieces ready for when I moved out - my bedroom very quickly became too messy to even sleep in lol, as I went a little overboard with preparing/packing to move out!
we have kittens
our first home! home tour
❥ October...very eventful! The stray cat we took in at my parents house gave birth to four beautiful little kitties! Which we hoped to take a couple with us when me and Ashley moved in to our first home! We got the keys on the 27th October! You can check out my Home Tour if you like? :)
our new kittens, kitten blog, kittens blog post
❥ Our new Landlady allowed us to have pets in the home, so we picked up our troublesome twosome - our new Kittens Felix and Bella in November, and brought them into our new home!
Blogmas, christmas decorations, first christmas in first home
❥ December, I took part(and very nearly completed) BLOGMAS! I enjoyed decorating our whole house with Christmas decorations, and finally had a lovely Christmas with my family on Christmas day!

All in all, a lot happened for me during 2014, and I am hoping that I can achieve more things during 2015! Hopefully getting a better job, doing something I enjoy! We will see how that goes!

What were your highlights of 2014? & Here's to a happy and eventful 2015!
