Degustabox Review | November 2014

I've seen a fair few of these Degustabox reviews floating around on my blogger feed lately, and since I moved into my first home I decided it was about time I got my hands on one of these boxes for myself. I was easily swayed by an offer which I found on the Degustabox Facebook Page where you could get your first box for just £6.49 including P&P!!

My first box arrived earlier this week, however I was disappointed to find that one of the products inside had split open and ruined some of the other products in the box, however after emailing Degustabox they quickly responded and arranged for a complete new box to be sent free of charge, and that arrived within just 2 days and in perfect condition - so well done to Degustabox on your customer service :)

Degustabox is a monthly subscription box which contains between 9-14 delicious and interesting edible/drinkable treats - many of which are new to the market! The box usually costs £12.99 but Degustabox guarantee that the products inside will considerably exceed this price! You can even fill in a taste profile which will help them select products especially for you! Anyway here are the contents of my November box...

Cool Dawn Recovery £1.49 per can.

Ideal for the party season as this is a herbal detox drink which actually helps to prevent and cure hangovers! This citrus and liqourice flavoured drink contains no stimulant ingredients and is not carbonated. It is recommended to drink a full can cold and shaken towards the end of the night, and then another in the morning if needed! I would be genuinely surprised if this works, but it's definitely worth a shot!

Montano Cider £2.79

An elegantly crafted Italian cider made only from Apples grown in the foothills of the Trentino region of Northern Italy. I think we will certainly enjoy washing our meals down with this!

PIP Organic Cloudy Apple £1.50 per bottle.

This pure organic apple juice is made by a family run, London based business which have won awards for their products. They contain no added sugars, water, preservatives or additives. I love apple juice and if its full of goodness and tastes good - even better!

Holy Cow Indian Curries £1.69 each.

Oh I do love a good curry! Although I can only stomach the mild versions so I think these particular flavours might be a little too much for my personal taste! But they look great, and are made from all natural ingredients! They are also suitable for vegetarians.

Kent's Kitchen Fajita Flavour Shots £1.85

These flavour shots are a quick and easy way to jazz up your meat dishes! The pack has four gel-like shots which are used to coat the meat whilst cooking to add taste and enhance your meals.

Branston Caramelised Onion Chutney £1.50

Chutney can be used in so many ways to add flavour to your meals and snacks, there is actually a recipe card in this months box for a Cheese, Spinach and Caramelised Onion Quiche which I will most definitely try out myself! I love baking, and I love trying new things and this sounds delicious!

Lindt Lindor My Melting Moment 65p each.

Crafted by the Lindt master chocolatiers, the Lindor My Melting Moment snowflake shapes are filled with a delicious smooth melting chocolate center. These would make perfect little treats for stocking fillers for Christmas!!

Kettle Chips Limited Edition Stilton & Port £2.19

I don't usually eat crisps as such, but these sound really tasty, and of course being a limited edition festive flavour I'm desperate to give them a try.

Drink Me Chai Spiced Chai Sample Sized Present

A blend of exotic spices, milk and sweetened tea. Just add milk of water for an instant taste of India!

A great selection of products in the November edition, and if I could afford to continue my subscription I certainly would, as I love being introduced to new products which you wouldn't normally think to buy whilst doing your weekly shop etc. The overall value of this box was well worth the £6.49 I paid for it. But it would also have been good value for money at the standard monthly price of £12.99 inc P&P.

Raw Nibbles - Raw Organic Treats

These tasty looking treats are from a wonderful little company by the name of Raw Nibbles - which is run by Husband and Wife Ian and Soph (read more about them here). Raw Nibbles products are free from gluten, egg, soya and dairy... they also do not contain any beet or cane sugar. They are made from simple ingredients and are full of vitamins and minerals that would usually be taken away during the cooking process of other products. I was recently asked if I would like to taste some of the Raw Nibbles Raw Organic Treats for myself - how could I say no?

Organic Raw Double Chocolate Brownie

A chocolate, nut and date base, stuffed with raw chocolate chunks.
Vegan, free from dairy, wheat, gluten, beet sugar, cane sugar, soya & egg. Handmade and hand-wrapped by Raw Nibbles in Suffolk.

Organic Strawberry Raw Fruit & Nut Ball

A sweet & fruity ball with a hint of strawberry.
Vegan, free from dairy, wheat, gluten, beet sugar, cane sugar, soya & egg. Handmade and hand-wrapped by Raw Nibbles in Suffolk.

You would think that something that claims to be so healthy, wouldn't taste very nice... but you'd be wrong as both products I tried are both really tasty! Out of the two though, I have to say I preferred the Fruit & Nut Ball because I'm not too keen on chocolately things anyway, but love fruity flavours! I've got my eye on the Apple Pie Fruit & Nut Ball - sounds delish! But if you're looking for some tasty, yet healthy treats then I would definitely recommend this company. Each and every product is handmade and hand-finished. These would even make a great gift idea for the food lovers this Christmas!

The No 7 make up range at Boots is one of my all time favourite brands, they are actually really good quality, and affordable - especially when Boots do the vouchers which offer you £5 off skincare and £3 off make up! You may have seen my blog post featuring the No 7 Summer Collection I shared with you a few months back but today I have the recently released No 7 Autumn Collection to share with you all! There are some real gems in this collection...

No 7 Stay Perfect Nail Colour Black Patent £6

These two new nail colours really are stunning! They offer a high shine patent effect finish, with just 1 coat. My favourite is definitely the black - it's so glam! Team it with a sparkly black dress for your Christmas party outfit! The flat brushes make application super easy and the finish is opaque and streak-free. Absolute bargains at just £6 each, or £3 with a voucher!

No 7 Pop & Glow Cream Blush Stick in Watermelon £9.95

I've never really been a fan of cream blushes, and have always used powder versions, simply due to the fact that I can never seem to apply the right amount and then just end up with a streak of colour across my face. However, this No 7 Cream blush stick has changed my mind, it's so easy to use, even for a complete make up amateur like myself! It has a light, creamy formula with a pop of colour, you just swipe across the desired area, and blend out as needed. It's a truly gorgeous colour to brighten up your face for the darker months!

No 7 Matte Lip Crayon Raspberry Wine £9
No 7 Matte Lip Crayon Raspberry Red £9

These beauties are my favourite products from this new collection! The colours are absolutely gorgeous and right on point for the berry lip trend for A/W14!! Raspberry Wine to me is a more wearable berry shade as its quite muted, whereas Raspberry Red is vibrant and bold - maybe more of a "going out" shade than every day wear. Both crayons have a matte finish, but neither cling to or emphasise dry patches on the lips - which is always a bonus for me because my lips are terrible for being chapped. The crayons are quite stiff at first, but as you warm them against your lips the formula becomes soft and creamy, and they glide on with ease! The colour literally lasts all day! I've gone to work wearing one, done an eight hour shift eating and drinking in between and then the colour is still visible at the end of the day! Well worth getting these for your makeup bag! I wore the Wine shade in my Autumn Style blog post if you fancy checking that out?

No 7 Stay Perfect Eyeshadow Trio In The Navy £9.50

Last but certainly not least is this adorable little eyeshadow trio - which is called "In The Navy" it contains 3 eyeshadow pans, the lightest shimmer champagne shade in the middle is to be used all over the lid and brow bone as a highlighter, the top matte beige shade is to be used on the lid and in the crease of your eyelid, before finally using the deep navy blue shade along the lash line as an eyeliner! The finished look of this is gorgeous, and perfect for parties! The formula of the shadows are very soft, and the shimmer particles aren't too large. The colour pay off is really good and they last well too, especially with an eyeshadow primer!

Overall this collection is ideal for Autumn, and I would definitely recommend getting your hands on a couple (or even all) of these products!

The Perfect Proposal? ❤

(Image from Pinterest - Edited by me)

"Will you marry me?" - Those four words that should mark an amazing moment in your life that you will cherish and remember forever and tell your children about etc... So naturally when you hear those words from your partners mouth, or if you are the one to pop the question you want everything to be just perfect!

I was recently asked, what is my idea of "The Perfect Proposal"? And I thought it would be fun to write about how I'd have liked this to happen if I was given the opportunity to choose exactly how everything happened! Just for the record, I got engaged in February this year, and you can catch up here on my wedding blog post series if you'd like?

First and most importantly, make sure this is something you have discussed and that it's something you both want for your future together! Personally I never have been and still aren't planning to ever get married. However, marriage is an important part of life for a lot of people, but you have to make sure it's something you both agree with and want.

The ring.
Whether you decide to go and pick out a ring together, or whether you're choosing a ring as a surprise - you need it to be good, really good! I think we would all love a massive Diamond ring on our finger for us to show off to our family and friends. But a diamond ring doesn't have to be ridiculously expensive. Chisholm Hunter have an amazing range of Diamond Engagement Rings ranging from just £195 to a whopping £25,000 - so there's something for all budgets!! If I had the choice I would have chosen a simple 9ct Yellow Gold Solitaire Diamond Ring... My ring wasn't like this, and actually broke a couple of months afterwards, so I don't even have a ring to wear anymore :(

Anyway... Material things ay? What really matters is the thought that goes into the actual proposal...

Public or Private?
Personally I've never liked my life to be public. I'm a very private person, so naturally I would want to be proposed to privately (which Ashley did - maybe a little too privately and casually though - won't go into details because he won't be very happy if he reads this!) I'm glad he didn't ask me in front of a crowd of people though - that would have been super embarrassing!

The Location?

A lot of people say propose where you first met, but that would have been impossible considering it was on the car park at college, how romantic...Not! So... whisk them away on a romantic holiday - I would like just a countryside cottage holiday, here in the UK will be fine as long as the weather was nice! I would love to be proposed to in some Pinterest-worthy scenery, like the photo I featured at the top of this post that setup is so cute! - I should probably mention here that I would have liked some photos to be taken capturing the moment (so a photographer would come in handy) Maybe photographing you whilst the pair of you were out walking in the woods...holding hands... cuddling and kissing, and just being yourselves, you get the gist. And then a photograph of him getting down on one knee and popping the question and the surprised look on your face when he asks! I love photographs and this would be a great thing to have to look back on in years to come! (Just for the record, I don't have any photographs)

What would you be wearing? What would he be wearing?
As I would like to have photographs taken, maybe dress up a little wearing a cute dress, do your hair and makeup nicely, but still keep it as natural looking as possible. Not really bothered what he's wearing - whatever he feels comfortable in.

When would it be?
Popular times that people get engaged are public holidays and celebrations... i.e Christmas & Valentines Day. We actually got engaged on the day after Valentines Day. I hated this, because it takes away the fact that its YOUR special celebration. So ideally I would have liked it to have been on our dating anniversary... Which was only a couple of months ago on the 16th September we had been together 5 years... This would have been a much more unique and special time to propose... Anyway, yes, make it a memorable date for the two of you so that you can celebrate together in years to come, without other celebrations getting in the way!!

Hen Heaven took to the streets earlier this year and filmed a short video asking passers by what their idea of the perfect proposal would be. This made me laugh, so you might wanna check it out :)

So, there's my idea of my perfect proposal, what would yours be?

Or, to put a twist on things... if you're engaged already - did your partner do well or what would you change?

Furniture Ideas To Maximise Use Of Space In A Small and Open Plan Home

Furniture Ideas To Maximise Use Of Space In A Small and Open Plan Home

Since moving into our first home one thing we've struggled with is finding furniture that will suit and fit the space we have. It is spacious but I feel that a lot of the space is wasted as it's all open plan. Anyway, I've found a few furniture items which I feel would help to maximise the use of small spaces and open plan homes and decided to put them together in a home wish list style post today...

I've been lusting after the Dunelm Toulouse White Dressing Table for absolutely ages! I really like the traditional detailing, and it is quite slimline - totally ideal for our small bedroom! Every girl should be able to get ready sat at a beautiful dressing table each morning!

For the living area, I'd really like a Sofa Bed! A sofa bed would be particularly handy for us because we only have one small bedroom, so if we had friends or family over we could convert the sofa into a bed for them. I do have my eye on both the Charcoal and the Brown colour - both could work with our living room decor, but you can see the full range here at Cookes Furniture.

Staying within the living area, we've already bought a coffee table and dining table from Ikea, in the Black-Brown shade which you can see some snaps of in My Home Tour Post. These Ikea Kallax Shelving Units (which can also be used as room dividers because they are finished all round) would be really handy to store DVD's, books, paperwork, folders, magazines etc! So a great storage idea! Not to mention you can buy some of the extras; drawer and door inserts, and Drona Canvas Storage Boxes to compliment the shelving.

I mentioned that we already have a dining table, but we do have a large empty floor space, which we could fill up with this cute circular Stowaway Dining Table! This would be handy for me to sit at to do my blogging, as I like to have a separate space, and also we can use the spare seats when we have guests round. This particular table is an unfinished oak, so I could always paint it to match the room.

Also from Ikea I noticed these really cute Hemnes Shoe Cabinets - the doors pull down to reveal your shoes, not to mention they are really slim units so can easily be put in a hallway or something where you have a narrow space. It even has a small drawer at the top to put little bits and pieces in! I hate having shoes on show so this would be ideal for me.

Finally, our bathroom is pretty small, and storage for toiletries is very limited, and let me tell you...I have a tonne of toiletries! I've decided that the best way for us to maximise space in our bathroom is to fit a tall unit next to the bath/shower. I really like the style of this Manhattan Tall Boy Bathroom Unit from Argos. Its got a range of open shelves, and door unit, along with some wicker baskets to act as drawers. Perfect - and an absolute bargain!

How do you use furniture to make the most of the space in your home?

If theres one thing I will enjoy about the run up to Christmas this year, it will be making our new home feel more homely and Christmas-sy! Along with all the pretty lights, decorations and a beautiful christmas tree, you might also consider some Christmas Flowers

I recently received this stunning Designer Velvet Rose Christmas Flower Bouquet from Debenhams Flowers, and I couldn't wait to share it with you all! The bouquet is made up of a selection of pink deepwater roses, scented oriental lilies, red grandprix roses, along with berries and silver birch to give it a festive look!  I did wait just over a week for the Lilies to open up (our house is pretty cold so I think they were hiding away) for the photo's above. But as you can see, the flowers were still in excellent condition after this time - proving Debenhams seven day Flower Freshness guarantee!

The flowers arrived very well packaged and protected in a large, discreet black box, and the flower delivery is available on named day, 1 hour or pre-noon slots - so you're bound to find a date and time to suit you, or if you're ordering for someone as a gift, then this will be really handy to make sure they're at home to receive the delivery. There are also extra's to accompany the bouquets which include; a vase, chocolates, balloons, cake, teddy bears and bottles of wine - to make your gift extra special!

As I previously mentioned, these will make a great festive addition to your home, or make a great gift for a loved one? Either way, Debenhams Flowers have very generously provided me with an AMAZING 25% OFF DISCOUNT CODE for my readers. Just use the code "DFBLOG25" at the checkout!

I'm sure you've all at least heard of the Clinique Chubby Sticks by now, but if you haven't then let me introduce you. These are basically chunky "crayon" shaped tinted lip balms. Which act to relieve dry and cracked lips with nourishing, moisturising and even anti-oxidant ingredients such as shea butter and Vitamin E.

The chunky twist up crayon allows for quick and easy application, and because they provide a sheer hint of colour, you can literally swipe across your lips and go! I received this Chubby Stick as a magazine freebie earlier this year (I think it was Glamour but can't remember now) and although this is a smaller version of the standard size it makes it ideal to pop in your handbag, and will still last a long time!

Formula wise, its firm but once warmed against the lips melts slightly making it softer and easy to apply. It applies evenly, and doesn't cling or emphasise any dry patches - giving it a 1 up over lipsticks.

The shade I picked was Woppin' Watermelon and this is one of the lightest colours from the regular shade range, and is in fact one of the best selling shades here in the UK! Clinique Woppin' Watermelon is a blue toned, light pink shade with a slight shimmer/sheen. Because of its colouring I think it would work very well for most, if not all skin tones.

The Chubby Sticks are priced at £17.00 (full sized) which is a little expensive for my personal budget, but this is a great all-round product to just slick on your lips and forget that you're even wearing. It offers both aesthetic and physical improvements, so well worth a try in my opinion, especially if you pick a subtle enough shade you can pretty much wear it all day every day!

What is your favourite Chubby Stick shade?

I will be posting more about each room once everything is sorted and maybe even throw in a "room tour" and home-ware haul for each one! Unfortunately because we are renting, we are extremely limited as to what we can actually do with the decor(I don't think we can even hang pictures or mirrors without getting permission first) but we have worked with what we've got for now instead of harassing our lovely Landlady to change things just yet! But the place isn't in bad nick to be honest.

We have moved into what is some kind of bungalow/house. As you can see it looks like a bungalow from the front, but it does have an upstairs - with a "mezzanine" style gallery bedroom and walk in wardrobe - yes, you heard me... I have a walk-in wardrobe! (Shame I have to share it with Ashley lol). The whole of the downstairs is open plan except for the bathroom and consists of a lounge with separate dining area, a kitchen, there are two cupboards under the stairs, which then leads to the bathroom. We do also have a pretty decent sized garden with a shed and separate patio area. It really is quite spacious, and we love it, it's ideal for the two of us!

As always if you have any questions - feel free to leave me a comment, tweet or email me!

Autumn / Fall Blog Tag

1. What's your favourite seasonal drink from Starbucks/Costa/Cafe Nero etc?

The Starbucks Toffee Nut Latte is delish! Although I haven't managed to get my hands on one yet this year...

2. Accessories- what do you opt for: scarf, boots, gloves?

Scarves are a must for me during the colder months! I love big thick knitted woolly scarves to wrap up warm!

3. Music- what's your favourite music to listen to in the Autumn?

I don't really change my music during the autumn months, but obviously as we get closer to Christmas it's only natural to listen to a few Christmas jingles ;)

4. Perfume- what's your favourite scent for this time of year?

The Liz Earle Botanical Essence No 15 is gorgeous for this time of year, it contains fresh and spicy, oriental notes including the likes of pink pepper and cinnamon. The perfect Fragrance for Autumn!

5. Candles- what scents will you be burning this season?

I tend to stick with the same candles and fragrances all year round, as I'm not too keen on the spicy candles at this time of year. But I'm looking forward to getting my hands on some of the new Yankee Candle Christmas Collection - Sugared Apple and Christmas Cookie are definitely on the wishlist!

6. What do you love most about Autumn?

Sitting with a nice hot drink in front of the warm fire and watching some films, also I like to bake cakes etc, and some pastries - including Mince Pies and Apple Pies, mmmm! This is made even better this year because we've just got our first home together and with our own space instead of being in our parents houses!

7. Favourite makeup look?

Brown smokey eyes, and berry lips for sure!

8. What are you looking forward to most in Autumn?

I don't really think theres anything I'm looking forward to as such, as most of the big events in Autumn have already passed (Halloween and Bonfire Night etc).

I tag - anyone who would like to join in with this tag! Although I'm sure a lot of you have already posted it! :

Turn A Bad Hair Day Into A Good One

Bad hair days: we've all had them. There’s nothing worse than waking up in the morning feeling refreshed, only to take one glance at yourself in the mirror and wonder what an earth must have happened overnight to make your locks look that bad.

OK, so bad hair days aren't the be all and end all, but we don’t want a bad hair day to be the reason for having an all-round bad day. If your bedtime bun has turned into a knotted nest, you can’t get a comb through your fringe, or if your hair has the temperament of a stubborn child, fear not: there’s always something you can do.

So, instead of hiding your hair beneath an over-sized hat, or avoiding going out in public altogether, here are a few simple tricks to turn your bad hair day into a good one:

Unruly fringes: embrace the braid

Anyone with a fringe will know that they can be temperamental at the best of times. And, given their position on our heads, they are normally the first thing we notice. If you've woken up with a wild fringe, one way to tame it is by turning it into a braid. A headband braid, in particular, is perfect if you've got long hair that you want to wear down.

Split ends: curl it

By far the best way to tackle split ends is a visit to the hairdressers. In the meantime, however, there are a few ways you can disguise them. Split ends are most visible on straight hair, so grab your curlers, straighteners or hairdryer and curl your hair under: not only will this hide those nasty split ends, it will also add volume to your mane.

Limp locks: grab the hairdryer

If your ‘do is looking particularly drab one morning, it can be tricky knowing how to fix the problem. But, all that may be needed to lift your limp locks is a bit of hot air. With your head upside down, give your hair a once-over with the dryer for around five minutes to give it some much-needed volume. Changing your parting position can help, too.

Problematic pony's: slick it back

The ponytail is a hairstyle we often resort to when our hair looks a little greasy, or we've overslept and don’t have the time to do anything else. But, sometimes ponytails can be difficult to get right, often resulting in lumps, bumps and straggling strands. If this sounds familiar, then you should try a slicked-back ponytail, which creates an ultra-sophisticated look and is relatively easy to achieve. Comb a small amount of conditioner through your hair before pulling it back into a center parting, tying it just above the nape of your neck.

If all else fails: accessorise

If you've tried to tame your tresses but failed in more ways than one, a simple hair accessory can make all the difference. You could go for that pin-up look by complementing an updo with a red, polka-dot headscarf, which also helps to hide frizzy crowns. If you’re looking for ways to disguise your roots, a trilby hat is the ultimate accessory. Whatever it is, accessories help to take the attention away from whatever it is you’re trying to hide.

If bad hair days are cropping up a little too often, then it may be time to treat yourself to a restyle. If you’re visiting Kent soon, you may want to check out The Chapel hairdressers based in Tunbridge Wells. Their experienced stylists will be on hand to give you some expert advice, and will be able to transform your locks so that you can finally bid farewell to those bad hair days.

Autumn Style: Mens edition

Following on from my recent Autumn Style post where I shared with you some of the fabulous clothing and accessories which have made their way into my Autumnul wardrobe, I thought it would be a nice idea to share a mens Autumn Style edition too! This post is kind of a collaboration with my Fiance' Ashley, as the products I've featured I could actually see him wearing them, and they fit in with his usual style.

First up, the Blue Boxy Powel Jeans are from Jack and Jones, I really like this style of jeans, they look casual and comfy but you can also dress them up if required because of the material. The Milton Ocean Suede Boots are by Crockett & Jones. The deep blue suede is something a little different from the norm, and the lighter blue stitching compliments the colour of the jeans. Moving onto the top half where I picked something smart/casual in the form of this polo style jumper from Topman, then to wrap up warm in the cold weather there was this lovely knitted Fair Isle print Melrose Scarf from Barbour, along with a leather look hooded jacket with contrast grey sleeves from Burton. Overall, I think this would make a really stylish yet comfy and warm outfit for your man - hey, why not take note of some gift ideas for Christmas? ;)
