We're engaged!

engagement, engagement ring, engagement blog post, engagement announcement, we're engaged

Don't worry, I'm not about to get all soppy and lovey-dovey on you guys! I just thought it was a little bit of news worth sharing here on my blog. On the 16th February, whilst we were away on a short break for Valentines weekend(my blog post about that weekend here) my boyfriend Ashley proposed, so we are now engaged! It still sounds weird saying that we are now FiancĂ© and FiancĂ©e!

We have been together for almost 5 years now, we met while we were at college. During this time we've had our ups, and we've had our (lots of) downs! But I guess this is what relationships are made of? I don't believe in these fairy tale relationships where everyone is always smiling and happy, and get swept off their feet and fall head over heels in love - blah blah blah... It's more of a realistic approach for me. "If you always prepare for the worst, you won't be disappointed, then when something good happens, you can be happy about it" - (My life motto right there!)

Personally, I'm not and never have been bothered by the whole marriage thing, I would absolutely hate to be the centre of attention all day, I like to hide away, keep myself to myself, and avoid big social situations whenever possible. So I won't be "walking down the aisle" anytime soon. Maybe one day...

Not to mention, all the pressures these days to have a big fancy wedding and to out-do everyone else who's been married, is just ridiculous, and to be quite honest, I have better things to spend my money on than a dress, fancy suits, bouquets of flowers and table decorations.

So what does this mean for me? Well, it just shows that Ashley has took one step further in his commitment towards me and our relationship. So it provides a little more stability I guess? Our next step is to find our own place so we can move out of our parent's houses. I know that females are supposed to mature a few years ahead of guys, but I'm hoping that Ashley is finally ready for this next step now, like I was a couple of years ago haha.

Overall, despite the tone of this post(I've just re-read it back to myself and thought oh my god that sounds awful) I am happy about being engaged, I just won't be looking to actually get married any time soon. However, I am super excited about finding our first home together and buying lots of lovely things to put in it! :)

P.S - If anyone has any questions or further thoughts on my comments in this post, please feel free to email me about it!

  1. Congrats lovely (:
I totally get what you mean. If Matt proposed to me, it would be a good few years before we actually got married. I am honestly not that fussed on marriage, at the end of the day..after the ridiculous amounts of money people spend you basically get a piece of paper that says your going to be together forever. Oh dear! I seem to making this comment a bit rambley & unhappy. I am very happy for you, it is very nice when they let you know that they are ready to take the next step in the relationship. (:

P.S your ring is beautiful (: xx

    1. Thank you Ash!

I am so glad that I'm not the only one who see's the gesture this way! Maybe its because we are still young?

When my friends and family mention it, I'm always so negative about the whole marriage thing, but it's not about that for me, its totally about the fact that getting engaged is a commitment, not about planning a hugely expensive fancy wedding! x

    2. No problem lovely (:

Haha about 4 years ago, I wanted a massive wedding but now I'm in a real adult relationship..being with Matt is enough. I don't need a ring but if we do get married it will be small & not a big deal. I would be dreading all the attention on me D: I feel as I get older the more negative I get about the whole marriage/children thing.

An engagement is a huge thing in itself, he's basically saying 'I want to be with you forever & I want you to know it' not 'I'm going to put a ring on your finger & now we have to plan a massive wedding as soon as possible'

It must have taken a lot for Ashley to not only buy a ring but actually as you, it's such a huge thing for the both of you. It means he's in it 100% which is amazing! Everyone obsesses over getting married but just being with someone who shows little gestures of commitment is also very nice. xx

  4. Congratulations.

I agree, about the attention thing but I'm the complete opposite. I want to get married, but it's tempting to run away and get it over and done with, on a beautiful island or something lol. I'm not engaged but I've been with my partner since I was 17 and I'm a week and half off turning 23.

    Beautiful ring.

  7. I agree, weddings are just one day of your life and a huge expense, finding a place to call home together is much more important plus would rather use the money on a deposit for a bigger house/have an amazing holiday.
