The Body Shop is a place I seem to have overlooked in terms of make up and cosmetics in the past, I have no idea why because I was very kindly sent The Body Shop Smoky Eye Palette* to review, and to say the least I am impressed! The palette itself is a sleek and shiny black compact and comes with a 4-step guide on the back to show you how and where to apply each of the eyeshadows. Inside the compact is a large mirror, 4 eyeshadows, an eyeshadow shader brush and an angled liner brush. I'm not normally a fan of the brushes included in palettes, however these are surprisingly good quality, the bristles are soft and they blend the shadows well.
The palette I received is called Smoky Brown, unfortunately I can't seem to find a direct link to this palette, so I can only assume it was a limited edition or discontinued? The only link I've found is on their USA website, to their 'Smoky Plum' palette - here. Anyways, the four shadows consist of a base and highlight colour, lid colour, outer crease colour and a liner colour, everything you need to create the perfect smoky eye all in this small and handy compact!
All four shades are equally well pigmented, and as they have a metallic/glitter finish, I was surprised to find they are really soft and non-gritty. (I have sensitive eyes, and have to refrain from wearing certain glittery shades due to the glitter pieces getting in my eyes). There is a little kick-up from the shades in the pan, but nothing too drastic after a quick blow of the brush before application. In terms of wear-time, they tend to last around 6+ hours without a primer (my lids are only slightly oily) but I think next time I will try wearing them with a primer to increase the colour intensity and lasting power, especially if it was for a night out!
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no make up expert, and to tell the truth I'm totally rubbish when applying eye make up, my hands are really unsteady! So I was grateful for the step-by-step guide, and the shades were so easy to work with. For those of you who are interested, I used TOPSHOP Kohl Eyeliner on my waterline, and my Max Factor Clump Defy Mascara to finish off and I was really happy with the overall look!
I think the palette retailed at around £15 previously, probably half that in their sale! I would totally recommend this palette, and will definitely be looking to try out some more make up from The Body Shop range. Why not head on over and check out some gift ideas from The Body Shop... Perfect as a little treat to yourself for Valentines Day? ;)
