I'm a self-confessed make up & cosmetics hoarder. I often collect things that I don't need and will probably never even use. I usually just buy them because they are pretty looking or cute. Well, this was the case with these MUA Lipsticks. I started off with a selection of shades which I really loved and found myself wearing all the time! Then as time went on, found myself purchasing more and more, simply because they were so cheap and such good quality. Before I knew it, I'd collected the whole set. Let me tell you, it was totally worth it. Just look at how pretty they look all lined up together in my photos!
The collection consists of 16 shades varying from nudes & baby pinks right through to hot pinks & deep, true reds.
First of all, the packaging is a very simple yet stylish black plastic. With silver MUA logo and a transparent section at the base which represents the shade housed inside. For such a small price, I can't fault the packaging and appearance, they look decent and the lids are really secure (don't you just hate a lipstick stained handbag!? Happened to me several times with other products ) The only thing I will mention is they don't have shade names, they are just numbered. Other than the last few shades which seem to have a name too!
I didn't originally know this when I purchased the lipsticks, but I discovered that the transparent piece at the end of the tube actually unscrews and there is a little sample of the lipstick shade inside, this is perfect for when you are using a lip brush to apply the product, so you don't get loads of brush marks on the actual stick of lipstick. Obviously this is nothing fantastic, but its a great little touch, and something which I believe is unique to MUA's lipsticks?
Now, onto the quality of the lipsticks. Personally, I think they are bloody brilliant! Especially considering the TINY £1 PRICE TAG. For this, you'd usually expect, well...lets be honest, crap? Well, I was certainly proved wrong. These are at least drugstore quality lipsticks, if not better! The formula is creamy and has a glossy finish for most shades. Some of the lighter shades, especially the ones with glitter pieces in them tend to be a little drier. Of course the pigmentation varies depending on the shade, the lighter/paler shades tend to be much more sheer but easily buildable, whereas the deeper shades, especially Shade 1, you literally need one sweep of colour to stain your lips to the desired shade. Unfortunately they don't last too long, maybe about 2-3 hours, but it's not that much effort to re-apply now, is it? Surprisingly, they don't dry my lips out too much either, but I'd always recommend applying lip balm afterwards to prevent any after-wear flaking effects etc.
There you have it, all 16 shades, swatched. I find that photographing lipstick swatches is pretty hard, and to get an accurate colour representation is even harder. Not to mention, one shade might look absolutely gorgeous on one person, and then look completely different on another, due to the natural colouring of our lips being different. All this aside, I'd definitely recommend trying out & swatching some of the shades for yourself next time you're at Superdrug. I guarantee you'll to find at least one shade you'll love!
My personal favourites are Shades 2, 3, 7 & 11, what are yours?
