Top 13 posts of 2013!

As the year draws to a close, I wanted to just do a finishing post. I know a lot of bloggers have done a "top beauty products of 2013" but I didn't manage to get any photographs done today to do this kind of post. Instead I thought I'd do a quick post, or re-cap if you like of my best posts of 2013!

These posts have been chosen on page views alone. The most viewed post was actually my "beauty advent calendars of 2013" but I decided this wasn't really a post I'd put much time/effort into, so began with the next best... which was my MUA Power Pout review. Now that's all out the way... I would love to hear which posts you liked most, and what you'd like to see more of in 2014!

I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year, whether you're out celebrating or just having a quiet night at home. I hope 2014 is a brilliant year for all of you!

Midori & Models Own - Match Your Nails To Your Cocktail!‏

MODELS OWN MIDORI LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION
MODELS OWN MIDORI LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION
MODELS OWN MIDORI LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION SWATCHES - GOLDEN GREEN, DANCING QUEEN & MY MIDORI

Now that Christmas is out the way, the next big thing is the New Year! I'm sure many of you will be hitting the town on New Years Eve and partying the night away! So, how about matching your nails to your cocktail with this gorgeous trio of nail polishes? This limited edition Midori Collection* has been created through a partnership with Midori and Models Own.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Midori, it's a licquer made with premium Japanese melons for their juiciness and fresh, vibrant taste! It can be enjoyed in a variety of cocktails, long drinks and shots. You can check out some recipies to create your perfect cocktail here. The name "Midori" literally means "green" in Japanese, and is represented through the shades in this collection.

The three Midori inspired shades are a great way to add a splash of colour to your night out, and are also Melon scented to make your manicure smell as good as your cocktail tastes! Some of the scented polishes I've tried previously smell very strange and nothing at all like they claim to, however you do get a true melon-y scent from these polishes!

From left to right (photo's above) - "Golden Green" is a duo chrome effect polish which is very similar to the "Beetlejuice" collection from Models Own. It is of course a metalised green shade, with golden undertones, which makes it appear differently under different lighting. I think this is going to be the shade I'll wear most out of the 3. Next up is "Dancing Queen" which is a multi-coloured glitter top coat, what I love about this polish is that the glitter pieces are all different sizes, giving a really great effect on the nails. I've layered this on top of the other polishes in this set to show you the effect, and also I've shown you a swatch with 3 layers of this polish alone. Finally, the most vibrant in the set is "My Midori" which is a gorgeously bright and snazzy neon green shade. Ideal for party's to get your manicure noticed!

Overall this is a really great little set, and perfect for the party season, or even just to brighten up those dull winter days. The trio is available to buy at http://www.modelsownit.com/midori.html for £15.

Last Minute Christmas Gift Idea | Mark Hill Gorgeous Brunette Mini Gift Set

Boots are well known for their Christmas gift selection and their fabulous 3 for 2 offer, so if you've still got a few last minute gifts to purchase then these Mark Hill Hair Gift sets are an absolute steal and a perfect stocking filler at just £10 each! There are 3 sets to choose from, including Glam Blonde, Get It Straight, and finally Gorgeous Brunette*, which I will be sharing with you today...

"Make It Dark, Make It Rich, Make It Shine!"
The limited edition Mark Hill Gorgeous Brunette gift comes beautifully packaged and contains 4 travel sized products. Each enriched with natural ingredients such as cocoa and coffee beans to help you get the gorgeous, rich and glossy hair you want, every day!

The set contains a shampoo and conditioner, both of which come in handy 75ml squeeze tubes. These would be ideal to keep for travelling purposes over the Christmas and New Year period, if you're off visiting family and friends, or heading out to a swish hotel for a New Years party?

Mark Hill Gorgeous Brunette Shine Enhancing Shampoo
"Brown, Chocolate, Caramel  or Brunette, call it what you like - I just call it gorgeous!"
First off, the shampoo's formula is very thin and runny, so be ready to act fast once you squeeze this out the bottle haha. I was surprised at how such a formula managed to lather up so much, it was really easy to work with and rinsed out easily. It felt like my hair had been thoroughly cleansed. Not to mention it was left beautifully fragranced too!

Mark Hill Gorgeous Brunette Highlight Reflecting Conditioner
"Psst...Do you want me to tell you how to get gorgeous brunette hair every day?"
The conditioner is noticeably thicker and creamier than the shampoo, and has a gorgeous golden brown shading to it. I applied the conditioner and left it to soak into my hair for 5 mins (I always leave it in for this long no matter what conditioner I use) I could really tell the conditioner had worked even as soon as I was rinsing it out, my hair felt much smoother to touch and combed through easily with no snags.

The pack also contains two styling/finishing products, which come in 50ml sized tins:

Mark Hill Fabulous Finish Hairspray
"Keep your style exactly where you want it, all day long!"
I was going to say this would be the perfect handbag sized hairspray to keep your hairstyle in place at all the party's this festive season, however the spray holds so well, you'll only need to apply once before you go out! Once you've styled your hair how you want it, just spritz this over to stay looking flawless all day/night! The formula dries quickly after application and it simply brushes out without a build up of product.

Could Be Magic Anti Humidity Shine Spray
"There's nothing more annoying than frizz and flyaways especially when you have spent time getting your style just right"
I couldn't agree more! I suffer very badly from frizzy hair on humid days, and its most annoying when you've spent so long styling for a night out! I haven't had chance to try this spray out yet, so I can't comment much on the effect it has. But the concept is, once you've completed your hair styling process, spray this in the air, and walk underneath the mist to leave a layer of sparkling shine to add that finishing touch to your hair!

Overall, this kit comes with all the necessary products for your glamorous hair styling needs at this time of year, and is well worth the tiny price tag of £10. You could even pick up a couple for your friends and family on the 3 for 2 offer to make the price even less! They are available at Boots stores & you can view/purchase online - Link, but hurry before they sell out!

Glossybox Christmas Box December 2013 | Review & Contents

You may have noticed that I haven't reviewed any of the boxes from my Glossybox subscription for a while, this is because most of the time I'm not overly impressed, and I kept meaning to cancel my sub, but just never seem to get round to it. But then... you get one box which makes you change your mind, hence why I'm sharing the contents of the December Glossybox with you today :) I really like this box, mainly because for once, I can actually see myself using everything in it!

I was instantly impressed with the Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Smokey Eyes Mascara, I love their range of Volum' Express mascara's, they are such good quality for a drugstore brand. Although I haven't tried this particular one, if the others are anything to go by, I'll love it.

Next up, I was surprised to find the Wilkinson Intuition Razor in a beauty box to be honest, but I like these razors because they come with a bar of moisturising soap at the top to help you get a smooth and close shave.

I'm always happy to see a nail varnish, I'm sure you all know how obsessed I am with my nail colours by now. So this Seche Vite in a beautiful red "Schorchin' Hot" shade was easily welcomed, not to mention, this would be the perfect shade to wear for Christmas Day with a nice glittery top coat!

Lip glosses aren't usually a staple product in my day to day make-up, however I received this gorgeous Beautiful Movements Lip Gloss in shade Nude. I have in fact already worn this a couple of times, it wears well, and isn't sticky either.

Finally, a brand I haven't heard of before... Dr Bronner's Magic Soaps - Pure Castile Soap. Which is an 18-in-1 unscented baby-mild soap made with organic oils including the likes of Coconut, Olive, Hemp and Jojoba Oils. Sounds heavenly, can't wait to try it out!

Overall the contents of this month's beauty box are worth around £35-40. Not bad at all :)
What beauty boxes are you subscribed to? And what is your favourite product you received this month?

Competition | Style Your Man’s Christmas Outfit - Mainline Menswear

I was recently invited to take part in a blogger competition held by Mainline Menswear, who are an online retailer for men's designer clothing. You can read more about the competition here, but basically I was asked to put together an outfit to style one of the men (ie. boyfriend/dad/grandad) in my life this Christmas! I thought it would be a fun challenge, and something a little different from my usual posts, hope you enjoy reading! You might even get a few Christmas gift ideas for your man too...
Style Your Man’s Christmas Outfit Mainline Menswear

I decided to style the outfit for my boyfriend
, Ashley. I based the style of the items purely on his personal taste rather than using any male style icons. I'm 99% sure that he would love everything I've picked in this outfit, as they are very similar to what he would usually wear, and I'm sure he would love to unwrap some of these items under the tree on Christmas morning! He works so hard, bless him, but neither of us really find the money to splurge on designer clothing brands, so it would be fantastic to get him dressed up in some of these pieces if I was to win the challenge :)

For Christmas day, we aren't doing anything special, so I opted for a smart/casual look. It's nice to dress up for the occasion but still be comfortable in what you're wearing! These Slim Fit Armani Chinos were the first item I chose, simply because Ashley practically lives in these style of jeans anyway, and would definitely feel comfortable in them! I chose this G Star Raw Tacoma Shirt to compliment the casual look jeans. I wanted to add a splash of colour to contrast the neutral/grey tones, so I chose this gorgeous deep royal blue Lyle and Scott Crew Neck Jumper and also some Blue Lacoste Trainers to match. He isn't too keen on large winter coats even when it is freezing cold outside, so this Hooded Leather Jacket would do just nicely, and I know he would absolutely love a real leather coat, perfect!

What better way to accessorise than with a signature timepiece? This modern and minimalist designed Diesel Stainless Steel Watch is perfect for any age group and style. Finally, to tie together all the colours in the outfit I chose this Striped Scarf by Paul Smith Accessories, which will keep him all snuggly and warm in the harsh winter weather, comfort is more important than appearance, right?!

So, whether you're a guy who's stuck for outfit ideas this year, or if you're looking for some last minute gift idea's for the guy in your life, I hope this post has given you a little inspiration. Do head on over to Mainline Menswear to check out the rest of their designer range, there truly are some amazing brands and styles to choose from, and lots of accessories to use as stocking fillers. Do let me know what you think of my outfit idea, would your man wear this? Finally, I'd like to wish good luck to everyone who enters this competition :)

Overall I'm really happy with the outfit I've put together, and think this would be the perfect Christmas Day outfit for my man!

ORLY has arrived at Fragrance Direct

I've mentioned a couple of times before that Fragrance Direct is one of my favourite online beauty retailers. They are well known for their fantastically priced Essie nail polishes which everyone was hyping about during the summer, of which I gave into temptation and picked up a few for myself (see my haul post HERE). So I was delighted when I received an email letting me know that ORLY nail lacquers have now arrived at Fragrance Direct!

ORLY isn't a brand I've tried before, however I've heard so many good things about them as a brand and the quality of their polishes. They usually retail at around £10.95 each, but Fragrance Direct are selling them at a bargainous price of only £3.99 each for the huge, full size 18ml bottles! I was very kindly offered a few shades to try out and I wanted to share them with you all...

Left To Right: Shimmering Mauve, Cotton Candy, Snowcone & Love Each Other
First up is ORLY Shimmering Mauve*. I'd describe this as the most beautiful metallic rosy pink shade with silver and golden undertones, which in certain lights makes the polish appear much lighter and peachier than it actually is. This is the perfect nail colour for the festive season and I'll definitely be getting my fair share of wear time out of it this coming month. I was really surprised at how opaque this polish is, the swatch above is taken after just one coat. The formula applies smoothly and almost streak-free (unlike other metallic's I've tried) Overall this is a great all rounder, it's quite a muted and elegant shade which could be worn for any occasion or even just for a day at the office!

The second shade is ORLY Cotton Candy* which is a baby pink pastel shade. I love pastel polishes in particular because they are so wearable all year through! This shade is so pretty, and it has a solid creamy finish without any shimmer. The effect isn't too glossy either, which makes it a great natural looking polish. Cotton Candy did take around 3 think coats to get the above effect, but again, it applied smoothly and dried well.
Next up is ORLY Snowcone* is a cornflower blue shade, quite similar to Essie's Bikini So Teeny! I absolutely adore this shade, and I can see me getting so much wear out of this in years to come. I used two coats for this, however I think one reasonably thick coat would have done just fine as its so opaque. Again, like Cotton Candy, this is a solid creme finish without any shimmer/glitter pieces. Personally I'd class this as a summery shade, despite the winter-y name of snowcone... But, each to their own!
Finally I have ORLY Love Each Other*. I was expecting to love this shade when I first saw it in the bottle, however the specs of shimmer are so tiny, they barely show up on anything other than a dark navy/black base! I tried to swatch this polish alone, but my camera wouldn't pick anything up. So I painted my nails with two coats of Beauty UK's black nail polish, before coating with one layer of Love Each Other. As you can see it adds a glossy, almost jelly-like effect and you can see the beautiful lilac glitter specs! Perfect for adding a subtle sparkle to your ordinary dark coloured polishes!

The polishes I have tried come with wide span brushes and also have a rubber easy-grip lid, making application super quick and easy! I will mention that ORLY Nail Lacquers are free from harmful additives such as DBP and Formaldehyde. Overall I'm really impressed with the quality of these polishes and will certainly be looking to pick up a couple more in the near future before they sell out! There are over 40 different shades now stocked at Fragrance Direct, so there are a variety of colours and effects to choose from.

Why not take a look for yourself? - LINK
