L'Oreal Color Riche Smoky Eyes Quad-Eau De Rose Review & Swatches

Hello lovelies :)

At the weekend I bought my first ever L'Oreal products! They also happened to be on offer 3 for 2 in Boots. I bought three of their newest releases - False Lash Flutter Mascara , Nude Magique BB Blush & my product for review today the Color Riche Smoky Eyes Quad Eau De Rose.

I usually stick to neutral shades for my eyes, such as browns and golds as I think these are what suits my eye colour best. However just for a change I decided to go with this pretty array of burgandy's and pinks, which is suitably named "Eau De Rose".

Loreal Color Riche Smoky Eye Quad Eau De Rose
"4 perfectly matched, easy to use sumptuous colours. Choose just the right colours to make your eyes look their biggest, brightest and most attractive."

First off, I adore the packaging, it has an Art Deco kind of feel to it? With the contrasting black and gold, and the bold curvy outlines around the eye shadow pans. I'd describe it as a compact palette, as it contains only 4 shades but are enough to create a complete look. Perfectly sized for carrying around in the handbag and taking on your travels.

On the back of the packaging there is a very useful mini tutorial to create the perfect smoky eye. Me being quite the amateur when it comes to this kind of thing I found it very helpful - it tells you exactly which shade to use and where to use it.

I've read somewhere that the shadows are actually shaped to represent the shape of the eyelid... Is it just me who can't see this?

The quad comes complete with its own double-ended foam/sponge applicator. One side is the standard oval shape and the other is angled. I don't normally use these applicators for eyeshadows as I prefer brushes. But this was actually really sufficient and useful, perfect to create the look you're expected to achieve. The angled side was especially useful to apply shade 1 as close to the lash line as possible!

Shade 1 - A deep burgandy/brown shade with silver shimmer.
Shade 2 - A muted dusky pink shimmer.
Shade 3 - A light peachy pink shimmer.
Shade 4 - A very pale pinky/white shimmer.

All of the shades are well pigmented, especially shade 1 which is the deepest of the 4. They transferred perfectly from pan to eyelid using the foam applicator, however if you use a brush I found there was quite a bit of fall out so you would need to really pack the shades on heavily to the lid to get a dramatic/bolder effect.

I'm not exactly "in the know" when it comes to applying make up, I'm quite the amateur to be honest. I barely even know how to use make up brushes, or how to blend and contour etc. So the thought of trying to create a "smoky eye" daunted me a little. However, along with the very helpful tutorial on the back of the packaging I gave it a go, and I really like the result...

Overall I think the shades work perfectly together and I really like the overall look. It makes my eyes seem much more defined, especially with the light shimmer on the brow bone etc.

(I used MUA Shade 19 Single Eyeshadow to fill in my brows, and I used the L'Oreal False Lash Flutter Mascara - (review coming soon) to finish the look)

I think I'll be grabbing a couple more of these quads, especially while they're still on offer! I think I may go for a neutral palette next time, possibly E2 Nude Lingerie

You can view the full range HERE - available for £7.99 each at Boots & Superdrug.

  2. It's very pretty and I think you did a good job! I totally see the eye! The lid color is the oval shape of your eye and the other colors around it are placed where you would place them on your eyes. I really love these colors together, it's still natural but something different. Will check this out next time I'm out at the drugstore! :)
